§ 100.06 SEXTON.
   (A)   Appointment; direction; compensation. The Mayor, subject to the approval of the City Council, shall appoint a cemetery sexton who shall have charge and custody of the city cemetery. The sexton shall perform such duties as may be required of him or her by ordinance and all other duties imposed upon him or her by the Mayor and Council and shall work under the direction and receive such compensation as the Mayor and Council may direct.
   (B)   Duties.
      (1)   It is the duty of the sexton to have actual charge of the cemetery and to properly keep, preserve and care for the same.
      (2)   He or she shall locate and open all graves.
      (3)   No grave shall be prepared or burial permitted until there be presented to the sexton a receipt from the City Clerk for the payment of the lot and the fees for digging the grave. Family members of the deceased may open a grave for the decedent if they so request. The opening of the grave will be by hand tools only, under the supervision of the sexton. No fees for digging the grave will be charged under these circumstances.
      (4)   The sexton shall keep the grass cut and the cemetery as a whole clear of all weeds, wild and obnoxious growths.
      (5)   He or she shall keep the fence in good repair and maintain all streets and alleys in good condition.
      (6)   He or she shall take care that all graves are marked and all stones and monuments kept in proper position.
      (7)   He or she shall keep all trees pruned, disinfected and free from insects.
      (8)   It is the duty of the sexton to carefully prepare and preserve complete and adequate records of all burials showing the name of the person buried, the date of interment, and the lot and block numbers of each grave.
      (9)   He or she shall perform such landscaping and ornamentation as may be required by the Mayor and Council.
      (10)   He or she shall be at his or her post of duty at all times from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excepting the noon hour, Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays. At such times as necessity or emergency may require, outside of his or her regular hours, he or she shall be at his or her post of duty and answer and serve any summons made upon him or her for services in the cemetery.
      (11)   He or she shall perform such other duties as the Mayor and Council may direct.
