(A) The following signs are permitted in the R-1, R-2, R-3, R-4 and C Districts.
(1) Each parcel shall be permitted one facade or one freestanding sign per public street frontage, not to exceed a combined total of six square feet in area. The height of freestanding signs shall not exceed six feet.
(2) Temporary signs not to exceed 32 square feet in area and six feet in height. Temporary signs shall not be displayed for a period longer then 30 consecutive days.
(3) All signs shall be set back a minimum of five feet from property lines and shall not be located within 30 feet of an intersection.
(B) The following signs are permitted in the A and P/SP Districts.
(1) Each parcel shall be permitted facade signage and/or one freestanding sign per public street frontage, not to exceed a combined total of 32 square feet in area. The height of freestanding signs shall not exceed six feet.
(2) Temporary signs not to exceed 32 square feet in area and six feet in height. Temporary signs shall not be displayed for a period longer than 30 consecutive days.
(3) All signs shall be set back a minimum of five feet from property lines, and shall not be located within 30 feet of an intersection.
(C) The following signs are permitted in the CB, GB, RB and I Districts.
(1) Signs that are placed on the exterior walls of buildings shall not extend more than four inches from a building’s wall surface, unless the lowest portion of the sign is eight feet or higher from adjacent grade, or protected by landscaping or other measures to prevent underneath passage by either pedestrian or vehicle traffic, shall not exceed 200 square feet in area for any one building elevation and shall not exceed 30 feet in height.
(2) Awning or canopy signs that provide a minimum underside clearance of eight feet, do not exceed maximum sign area permitted by this chapter and do not negatively affect the safety of pedestrian or vehicular traffic. Sign area shall be calculated by measuring the smallest rectangle that can be drawn around all advertising materials contained on the awning or canopy sign.
(3) In areas zoned GB or I, within 750 feet of the centerline of Interstate Highway 35, freestanding pylon signs are allowed; provided, they do not exceed 100 feet in height and 250 square feet of area, including borders and trim. All signs on a site within this area shall not exceed a combined total of 500 square feet in area in the CB, GB and I Districts.
(4) In all other areas zoned CB, GB and I, freestanding pylon signs are allowed; provided, they do not exceed 35 feet in height and 250 square feet in area. All signs on a site within this area shall not exceed a combined total of 400 square feet in area in the CB, GB and I Districts.
(5) In areas zoned RB that do not front on Minnesota Highways #23 or #48, or County Highway #61, freestanding pylon or ground signs are allowed; provided, they do not exceed eight feet in height and 200 square feet in area, including borders and trim. In all other areas zoned RB, signs are allowed; provided, they do not exceed 35 feet in height and 200 square feet in area, including borders and trim. The total square footage of all signs on a site in the RB District shall not exceed 300 square feet in area.
(6) Projecting signs that provide a minimum undersign clearance of at least ten feet, and do not project more than 24 inches over a sidewalk, and shall not project over any curb line or traveled portion of a roadway, or exceed 20 square feet.
(7) All signs on a site shall not exceed a combined total of 500 square feet in area in the CB, GB and I Districts.
(8) Business complex/strip mall-type development shall be permitted signage, as approved by the Planning Commission during the required site plan review process. A comprehensive signage plan shall be required to be submitted to the Zoning Administrator for review and approval by the Planning Commission.
