§ 39.04 APPOINTMENTS.
   (A)   There are five (5) types of appointments:
      (1)   Probationary.
         (a)   The first six (6) months of service of each employee, except untrained individuals employed to become a police officers, shall constitute a probationary period. Upon successful completion of the probationary period the employee shall be considered a regular employee. If at any time during the probationary period the appointing authority determines for any reason that the services of the employee are unsatisfactory or unnecessary, the employee may be separated from his/her position without a hearing or any right of appeal. The appointing authority shall notify the employee in writing of the decision to terminate employment and such notification shall be delivered to the employee personally on a date within the probationary period.
         (b)   The first twelve (12) months of service on any individual employed as a police officer who has not completed the required training offered by the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy shall constitute a probationary period. Upon successful completion of the probationary period and the training offered by the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy the employee shall be considered a regular employee. If at any time during the probationary period the appointing authority determines for any reason that the services of the employee are unsatisfactory or unnecessary, the employee may be separated from his/her position without a hearing or any right of appeal. The appointing authority shall notify the employee in writing of the decision to terminate employment and such notification shall be delivered to the employee personally on a date within the probationary period.
      (2)   Full-time. After successful completion of a probationary period, regular full-time appointments are made on a full-time basis to full-time established positions for an indefinite period.
      (3)   Part-time. Appointments may be made on a part-time basis to part-time positions for an indefinite period.
      (4)   Temporary. Temporary appointments are made on a full-time or part-time basis to a temporary or permanently established position for a specified time period usually not to exceed three (3) months, unless otherwise approved by the City Council.
      (5)   Seasonal. An appointment for a temporary period (full-time or part-time) which occurs at a specific season each year shall be a seasonal appointment.
   (B)   Regular full-time employees shall be entitled to all benefits as provided in these policies and procedures. Probationary, part-time, seasonal or temporary employees shall not be entitled to any benefits unless otherwise noted in this personnel policy.
