133.01 COMPOSITION.

   (a)   The Fire Department shall be composed of a Fire Chief and such other employees as are authorized by Council, to be filled in accordance with the provisions as set forth in Section 6.05.01 of the Charter.

   (b)   The complement of the Fire Department shall be set at twenty-one, consisting of the following:

      1 Chief of Fire

      1 Assistant Chief

      4 Lieutenants

      15 Firefighters (Paramedic)

   (c)   In order to qualify for original appointment to the Fire Department of the City from and after the effective date of this section, an applicant shall be a certified EMT-P (Paramedic) and shall maintain such certification as a condition of continuing employment in the Fire Department. Any existing member of the Fire Department appointed on or after January 1, 1986 shall obtain certification as an EMT-P (Paramedic) as soon as practicable following the enactment of this section and shall maintain certification as a condition of continuing employment in the Fire Department.

   (d)   Within the limitations established by the annual appropriation ordinance for operation of the Department, the Mayor shall have the authority to appoint such part-time firefighters as are necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Department. The qualifications and duties of the part-time firefighters shall be determined by the Fire Chief, with a maximum number of part-time firefighters not to exceed twenty-five.
