1306.07 INTERIOR WALLS; SEPARATION OF UNITS.
   Interior walls and partitions between dwelling units shall have a fire-resistance of not less than that specified for the type of construction required for the building.
   (a)    All dwelling units in townhouses, row houses, multiplexes and other buildings where dwelling units are constructed side by side shall be constructed of masonry materials consisting of solid or hollow masonry units laid in mortar of a type necessary to produce a minimum three-hour fire resistance, or shall be constructed of concrete with a three-hour fire resistance rating. Garages and other high-fire hazard occupancies shall be constructed in conformity with the Ohio Basic Building Code.
   (b)    All living units in garden apartments or any other low-rise multifamily building where dwelling units are constructed one above the other, and in hotels and motels, shall be separated one from the other by fire separation walls constructed of approved materials of a type necessary to produce a minimum two-hour fire resistance rating.
      (1)    Exterior walls and load-bearing walls shall be of masonry construction.
      (2)    Floor/ceiling assemblies in hotels and motels shall have a minimum two-hour fire-resistance rating and shall, in all other respects, conform to the construction requirements designated in the Ohio Basic Building Code for Type 2(a) construction for motels and hotels.
      (3)    Floor/ceiling assemblies in garden apartments shall have a minimum one-hour fire-resistance rating and shall, in all other respects, conform to the construction requirements designated in the Ohio Basic Building Code for Type 3(a) construction for garden apartments and other low-rise multifamily buildings where units are constructed one above the other.
      (4)    All openings shall have opening protectives equivalent to those required for fire walls, as designated in the Ohio Basic Building Code.
   (c)    Corridor partitions for motels and hotels shall be of the same construction as party and fire walls and shall extend from the floor to the underside of the floor or roof above.
   (d)    Buildings for uses described in subsection (b) hereof shall have exterior and load-bearing walls built of masonry materials with a minimum fire-resistance rating of two hours. (Ord. 32-1997. Passed 7-8-97.)
