727.08 SAFETY DEVICES.
(a) All tanks for the storage of flammable liquid used in conjunction with self- service dispensing devices shall meet the requirements of these Codified Ordinances for flammable liquid tanks. Automatic hose nozzle valves with latch open devices are prohibited.
(b) All pipes supplying flammable liquids to approved self-service dispensing devices shall be equipped with electrically operated shutoff valves. All controls to such valves shall be in a centrally located area remote from all dispensing devices and adequately protected from the weather and mechanical injury. The valves shall be so designed as to close automatically in case of electrical power failure. All electrical equipment shall be listed for use in such areas. (Ord. 46-1983. Passed 10-11-83.)
(c) Every self-service station shall be provided with a minimum of one approved fire extinguisher listed for use in Class B fires, rated 60BC or larger, which shall be located at the main doorway entrance to the service station and one additional extinguisher of the same type to be located in the bay or repair area. Such fire extinguisher shall be visible within fifty feet and shall be in place during all hours the station is in operation. Extinguishers shall be protected from weather and mechanical injury. (d) Warning signs prohibiting smoking and instructing customers to turn off ignition systems during filling operations shall be posted in a conspicuous location at each island. Such signs shall have a white background with the words "No Smoking" and "Turn Off Engine" in red letters, a minimum of 4 inches high and with a minimum of 1/2 inches stroke. Signs with directions for operation of the dispensing devices shall also be provided.
