147.04 SICK LEAVE.
   (a)   Full-time Village employees will be entitled, for each completed eighty hours of service, to sick leave of 3.075 hours with pay. Employees may use sick leave upon approval of the responsible administrative official. When sick leave is used, it shall be deducted from the employee's credit on the basis of one hour for every one hour of absence from previously scheduled work. An employee can be required to justify sick leave by the responsible administrative officer. Falsification of written or signed statements to justify sick leave shall be grounds for disciplinary action including dismissal.
   (b)   A full-time employee of the Village, at the time of retirement from active service with the Village and with ten or more years of service with the Village, shall be paid in cash for one-third of the value of his or her accrued but unused sick leave credit. The payment shall be based on the employee's rate of pay at the time of retirement and eliminates all sick leave credit accrued but unused by the employee at the time the payment is made. However, the aggregate value of accrued but unused sick leave credit that is paid under this provision shall not exceed 240 hours.
   (c)   Any person employed as a part-time employee of the Village after January, 1997, and who subsequently obtains a full-time employee status with the Village, shall be entitled to have his or her prior service from January 1, 1990, with the Village computed and counted for the purpose of computing the anniversary date of hire. For the purpose of this subsection, “prior service” shall include all part-time or full-time service with the Village from and after January 1, 1990.
