For the purpose of this title, certain terms are herein defined. When not inconsistent with the context, the present tense includes the past and future; words used in the singular number include the plural number; a word in the masculine gender shall include the feminine and neuter genders; the word "building" includes "structure" and shall be construed as if followed by the words "or portion thereof"; the word "shall" is always mandatory and not merely permissive; any term not defined herein shall have the meaning of common or standard use.
