7-9-3: REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:
   A.   Registration Required: It is unlawful for any person to drive or operate any snowmobile on a public street or right of way in the village unless the same is registered and an identification number is displayed as provided for in this chapter.
   B.   Equipment: All snowmobiles operating within the village shall be inspected by a person designated by the village and shall be equipped, at a minimum, with:
      1.   At least one white headlamp having a minimum visibility and sufficient intensity to be viewed from five hundred feet (500'). If a snowmobile is equipped with a single beam lamp, such lamp shall be so aimed that when the vehicle is loaded none of the high intensity portion of the light, at a distance of twenty five feet (25') in front of the vehicle, projects higher than the level of the center of the lamp from which it originates;
      2.   At least one red taillamp having a minimum candlepower of sufficient intensity to exhibit a red light plainly visible from a distance of five hundred feet (500') to the rear during hours of darkness;
      3.   A brake system in good mechanical condition;
      4.   Reflective material of a minimum area of sixteen (16) square inches mounted on each side of the cowling. Identifying numbers may be included in computing the required sixteen (16) square inch area; and
      5.   Adequate sound suppression equipment.
   C.   Application For Registration; Fee: Any owner of a snowmobile desiring to operate or allow the machine to be operated within the village shall make application for a registration number with the village clerk at the village hall or at such other place or places as may be designated by the village board of trustees. The application shall be made on forms provided by the village clerk and shall be accompanied by a fee of ten dollars ($10.00). Before a registration number is issued and registration accepted, the owner must supply satisfactory proof of identification with the state of Illinois, including the Illinois registration number. Upon receipt of the application and this proof, the village clerk or the clerk's designated representative shall record the same and issue to the applicant an identification number.
   D.   Transferability Of Registration: The registration number so assigned is to be used only with the vehicle identified in the application. Such owner may, upon application with the village clerk, have the same number assigned to a different vehicle. (Ord. 2011-05, 2-7-2011)
