There may be established a department of the municipal government of the Village which shall be known as the Police Department. The Police Department shall consist of the Chief of Police and of such number of patrolmen as may be provided from time to time by the Village Board. Until such time as a Police Department may be established, the title “Chief of Police” shall include, as appropriate for the giving of certain notices or the taking of certain actions, the Mayor or the Code Enforcement Officer, as applicable.
