It shall be the duty of all persons, associations and corporations operating or moving steam threshing machines, steam engines, tractors or other heavy vehicles or other heavy machinery of whatever character over or along the streets of the town, and over the crossings, crosswalks, bridges, culverts or causeways within the town, to use a sufficient number of heavy planks whenever necessary to protect such sidewalks, crossings, crosswalks, bridges, culverts or causeways from being in any manner broken or in any way injured by the transportation of the vehicles over and across the same; and no vehicles abovementioned or heavy-loaded wagons shall be driven across walks at any other place, except at regular crossing.
