(A) The administration of the Waterworks Department shall consist of a Superintendent and an Assistant Superintendent, who shall be charged with the operation and management of the waterworks. The officers shall receive such compensation as the Board of Public Works and Safety and the Common Council may from time to time determine.
(B) (1) The Superintendent shall be appointed for a period of one year, and until his or her successor is chosen by the Mayor.
(2) The Assistant Superintendent shall be appointed for a period of one year, and until his or her successor is chosen by the Board of Public Works and Safety.
(3) The term of both officers shall begin on January 1. The officers may be removed from office at any time for any misconduct involving a breach of their duties.
(C) Before entering upon the discharge of his or her duties, the person appointed as Superintendent shall give bond in the sum of $2,000, conditioned for the faithful discharge of his or her duties.
(D) Other employees of the waterworks may be hired and retained under approval by and as the Board of Public Works and Safety may from time to time determine.
