It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge firearms, pellet guns, or any other mechanism or device designed or used to project a missile by compressed air, mechanical action, or any other means, within the corporate limits, except when used in the defense of person or property or pursuant to lawful directions of law enforcement officers. Nothing in this section shall be construed to limit a city's authority to take action under G.S. Chapter 14, Article 36A. A violation of this section is punishable as a misdemeanor.
