§ 98.99 PENALTY.
   (A)   In addition to other penalties, any person who fails, neglects or refuses to make corrections shall be subject to a civil penalty of $100 for the first day following the expiration of the time period specified in the order for such repair, alteration or improvement. A $10 per day penalty shall be imposed for each subsequent day that the unfit dwelling or dwelling unit remains in violation of the order. If a person fails to pay the civil penalty within ten days after being notified of the amount due, the town shall seek to recover the penalty together with all costs by filing a civil action in the General Court of Justice in the nature of a suit to collect a debt.
   (B)   The violation of any provision of this chapter shall constitute a misdemeanor, as provided by G.S. § 14-4 with a maximum fine of $500. In addition to the remedy specified in this and in other sections of this chapter, the provisions of this chapter may also be enforced by the town by injunction and order of abatement or by any other equitable remedy issuing from a court of competent jurisdiction, as specified in G.S. §§ 153A-123(d) and (e).
