4-150: QUARANTINE OF ANIMALS FOR OBSERVATION:
The identity and address of the owner of any animal that bites a person shall be promptly furnished to the animal control officer or the city officer investigating the biting incident and responsible for enforcement of this code. The owner of the animal shall be responsible for the immediate quarantine of such animal at the clinic of a licensed veterinarian at the owner's expense for a period of ten (10) days (240 hours) from the time of the bite. The owner of the animal shall furnish the name of the veterinarian to the animal control officer. The quarantined animal shall not be released until reasonable determination has been made by a veterinarian that the animal is not infected with rabies, and such owner shall then pay any related charges for confinement. The animal control officer is responsible for enforcing these quarantine provisions and may seize the animal and place it under quarantine at a clinic of a licensed veterinarian when the owner has not done so. Such owner shall then pay any related charges for confinement. (Prior Code, Sec. 3-10, as amended; amd. Ord. 1994-11, 4-21-1994)
