(A) Purpose. To ensure that an ambulance unit is available to respond to every emergency call.
(B) Policy.
(1) Patient care is the number one responsibility; however, as soon as the patient is properly transferred to the emergency department personnel, the unit will return to the assigned station.
(2) EMS units are expected to spend no more than 15 minutes at the hospital when transporting to an emergency department.
(3) If additional time is needed for patient care or observation, permission must be obtained from the shift supervisor to exceed the above-required 15-minute time limit.
