(A) Purpose. To establish a standard policy for the operation of County EMS vehicles.
(B) Policy.
(1) The maximum speed of every EMS vehicle is not to exceed ten mph over the posted speed limit.
(2) All EMS vehicles shall come to a complete stop at all intersections where stop signs are displayed in the EMS vehicle’s direction of travel or where the EMS vehicle must proceed against a red light. EMS vehicles shall proceed only when it has been determined that traffic conditions will permit such action. At other intersections or hazards, all EMS vehicles shall be fully prepared to stop by pausing sufficiently to assure that movement can be made safely.
(3) When any EMS unit is being backed, there must be someone watching for clearance.
(4) It will be the driver’s responsibility to ensure that the doors are fully open before leaving or entering the station.
(5) A written report must be submitted to the shift supervisor concerning any damage that occurs to an EMS unit. This report may be completed by either the driver or attendant.
(6) Seat belts will be worn at all times whenever EMS units are in operation.
