A. Application:
1. In connection with any building or structure which is to be erected or substantially altered, after the effective date of this Chapter, and which requires the receipt or distribution of materials or merchandise by trucks or similar vehicles, there shall be provided off-street loading berths not less than the minimum requirements specified in this Article.
B. Location:
1. All required loading berths shall be located on the same lot as the use to be served and no portion of the vehicles shall project into a street or alley.
2. In manufacturing districts, no loading berth for vehicles of more than two (2) tons' capacity shall be located less than fifty feet (50') from any residence district.
3. No permitted or required loading berth shall be located within twenty five feet (25') of the nearest point of intersection of any two (2) streets.
4. No permitted or required loading berth shall be located in a required front yard or side yard.
C. Size: A required off-street loading berth shall be at least fifteen feet in width by at least sixty feet in length (15' x 60'), exclusive of aisle and maneuvering space, and shall have vertical clearance of at least fourteen feet (14').
D. Access:
1. Each required off-street loading berth shall be designed with appropriate means of vehicular access to a street or alley in a manner which will least interfere with traffic movements, and shall be subject to approval of the Engineer of the Village of Hampshire.
E. Surfacing: All open off-street loading berths shall be improved with a compacted macadam base not less than seven inches (7") thick or equal, surfaced with not less than two inches (2") of asphaltic concrete or some comparable all- weather, dustless material.
F. Repair And Service: No storage of any kind nor motor vehicle repair work or service of any kind shall be permitted within any required loading berth.
G. Space Allowed: Spaces allowed to any off-street loading berth shall not, while so allocated, be used to satisfy the space requirements for any off-street parking facilities or portions thereof.
H. Required Loading Berths:
1. For a building constructed or used for any of the following uses, there shall be one loading berth for the first ten thousand (10,000) to one hundred thousand (100,000) square feet of floor area or fraction thereof, and one additional berth for each additional one hundred thousand (100,000) square feet of floor area or fraction thereof:
Auditoriums
Banks
Bowling alleys
Business and professional offices
Colleges
Hospitals
Hotels
Private clubs or lodges
Public administration buildings
Sanitariums and other similar institutional uses
Schools
2. For a building constructed or used for any of the following uses, there shall be one loading berth for a building containing five thousand (5,000) to forty thousand (40,000) square feet of floor area or fraction thereof, and two (2) loading berths for any building containing more than forty thousand (40,000) and up to one hundred thousand (100,000) square feet of floor area or fraction thereof:
Assembly
Cleaning
Disassembly
Fabricating
Manufacturing
Repairing
Storing
Testing
Warehousing
3. For a building constructed or used for any of the following uses, there shall be loading berths according to the following schedule:

Establishments handling the sale and consumption of food on the premises

For each additional one hundred thousand (100,000) square feet of floor area or fraction thereof in such a building, there shall be one loading berth.
4. For a building constructed or used as a theater, there shall be one loading berth for any such building containing eight thousand (8,000) to twenty five thousand (25,000) square feet of floor area, and one additional loading berth for each additional fifty thousand (50,000) square feet of floor area or fraction thereof.
5. Other Uses: Off-street loading berths shall be provided for buildings constructed or used for other uses in accordance with requirements determined by the Village Board of Trustees based upon requirements heretofore set forth for the most similar cases.
