VILLAGE CODE of HAMPSHIRE, ILLINOIS
6-2-1: RULES OF CONSTRUCTION:
The following rules shall be applied in construing the meanings of the provisions of this chapter:
   A.   Words used in the present tense shall include the future.
   B.   The singular number shall include the plural and the plural the singular.
   C.   The word "building" shall include the word "structure".
   D.   The word "shall" is mandatory and not discretionary.
   E.   The word "may" is permissive. (1985 Code)
