Sec. 6.2.  Election of mayor.
   (a)   The mayor of the City of Hamlet shall be elected by the popular vote of the qualified voters of the City of Hamlet.
   (b)   The person receiving the highest number of votes for the office of mayor shall be declared elected for a term of two years.
   (c)   The mayor shall take the required oath of office before the city clerk to perform faithfully the duties of the office of mayor, as required by the general laws of North Carolina as they apply to the council-manager form of government and any other laws of North Carolina pertaining thereto.
