Sec. 4.4.  Mayor pro tem.
   The mayor pro tem shall be elected by the city council from among its own members and he shall hold such office for a term of two years at the pleasure of the city council. In the absence, disability, or resignation of the mayor, the mayor pro tem shall, to the extent permitted by the General Statutes of the State of North Carolina perform the mayor’s duties, and until a mayor has been selected as provided in article IV, section 4.1(e) of this charter.
