All applicants for building permit shall pay a fee of $7.50 if the fair market value or remodeling cost is less than $2,000; $15 if the fair market value or remodeling cost is $2,000 or more but less than $10,000; and if the fair market value or remodeling cost is $10,000 or more, a fee of $15 plus $3 per $1,000 or part thereof by which the fair market value or remodeling cost exceeds $10,000. Except, there shall be no charge for demolition permits.
