§ 31.05 MANDATED LEAVE OF ABSENCE; SEEKING ELECTION TO CITY OFFICE.
   (A)   Any employee or appointed city officer of the city who seeks any elective city office of the city, shall be required to take an administrative leave of absence, without pay, commencing on the date of announcement, or date of filing for said elected public office, whichever may first occur; said administrative leave shall continue through election day, be it the primary election, and/or general election, or both, as may be appropriate. Said employee, or appointed city officer, may return to his or her regular work the day following election day. His or her job will be held open during the leave period, and he or she shall return at the same salary previously earned before the leave of absence commenced. This leave of absence shall apply to both the primary, as well as the general election.
   (B)   The requirements of this provision of the code of city ordinances does not apply to an incumbent elected official.
