§ 154.122 POLYVINYL CHLORIDE PIPE (PVC).
   (A)   Pipes. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic pipe shall conform to ASTM specification D2241, SDR-21 (200 psi). The material used shall conform to ASTM specification D1784, “Standard Specification for Rigid Polyvinyl Chloride and Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride Compounds”, Class 12454-B (PVC 1120).
   (B)   Pipe joints and gaskets.
      (1)   Joints for PVC and fittings shall be a bell-end, push-on type meeting the requirements of ASTM D3139, “Joint for Plastic Pressure Pipe Using Flexible Elastomeric Seals”. The joint shall be designed so as to provide for the thermal expansion and contraction experienced with a total temperature change of 75ºF in each joint of pipe. Details of the joint design and assembly shall be in accordance with the joint manufacturer’s standard practice.
      (2)   Gaskets shall meet all applicable requirements of ANSI standard A-21.11. Gasket dimensions shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’s standard design dimensions and tolerances. The gasket shall be made of such size and shape so as to provide, after assembly, an adequate compressive force against the spigot and socket to effect a positive seal under all combinations of joint and gasket tolerances.
      (3)   Gaskets shall be vulcanized natural or vulcanized synthetic rubber. They shall be free of porous areas, foreign materials and visible defects.
   (C)   Pipe fittings. Fittings for PVC pipes shall be of the same material and class as the pipe, with joints and gaskets to properly fit the PVC pipe. All fittings of 22.5-degree bends and greater, including tees, shall be properly anchored by concrete thrust blocks of sufficient size so as not to exceed a soil pressure of two tons per square foot. This blocking shall be installed prior to backfilling and testing.
