The pretreatment of industrial wastes from major contributing industries prior to discharge to the treatment works is required, and it is subject to the rules and regulations adopted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) as per 40 C.F.R. part 403 and “Guidelines Establishing Test Procedures for the Analysis of Pollutants”, 40 C.F.R. part 136, in addition to any more stringent requirements established by the town and any subsequent state or federal guidelines, rules or regulations.
