12-2-17: COST OF ABATEMENT OF THE VIOLATION:
Within ten (10) days after abatement of the violation, the owner of the property will be notified of the cost of abatement, including administrative costs. The property owner may file a written protest objecting to the amount of the assessment within ten (10) days. If the amount due is not paid within a timely manner as determined by the decision of the municipal authority or by the expiration of the time in which to file an appeal, the amount due the village shall be a special assessment against the property and shall also constitute a lien on the real estate for the amount due.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall become liable to the village of Green Oaks by reason of such violation. The village of Green Oaks may, but is not obligated to, determine the number of, and accept, installment payments on any portion of fines and penalties due under this chapter. Under no circumstances shall the number of installment payments exceed twelve (12) or the obligation to make the installment payments be permitted to run for more than twelve (12) months from the date the fines or penalties become final.
Interest on unpaid fines and penalties shall be at the rate of interest established by the state legislature for interest on judgments and shall be assessed on the balance beginning on the day following the giving of notice of the fine, penalty or costs of remediation or compliance.
