(a) The number of interments which may be properly made on a family cemetery lot is definitely fixed at the time of purchase, and no more will be permitted. In order that uniformity may be sustained, the City Manager or his/her designee will determine the location of graves on a cemetery lot.
(b) Only one body will be allowed in a grave, except by special permission of the City Manager or his/her designee (i.e. cremations). An infant burial over an adult's grave may be permitted, providing however, the adult burial is of sufficient depth and in a permanent vault approved by the City Manager or his/her designee.
(c) Interments on Sundays or general holidays are not permitted, except when ordered by the County Board of Health. No interment may be made unless the body is accompanied by a burial permit which is usually procured by the undertaker.
(d) Funerals will not be permitted to enter the cemetery later than 4:00 p.m., except by special permission of the City Manager or his/her designee.
(e) The City Manager or his/her designee shall be contacted before the setting of time of any funeral to avoid conflict with another funeral. Notice of not less than twelve working hours shall be given for the opening of a grave. All funeral processions, while upon the cemetery grounds, shall be under the direction and control of the City Manager or his/her designee, or his authorized agent.
(f) All opening of graves must be done by the employees of the cemetery. The schedule of grave service charges will be furnished upon application to the Finance Director.
(g) Interments shall be made only by the regular employees of the cemetery under orders of the City Manager or his/her designee or his authorized agents.
(h) In order to maintain a high standard of care and to eliminate sunken graves caused by collapse of boxes, it is required that all interments must be made in outside burial containers made of natural stone, metal, or reinforced concrete. All such containers must be made so and installed as to meet specifications established by the City of Greenfield.
