Section 2. Law Director and Prosecutor
   (a)   Law Director. The Law Director shall be the head of the Law Department and shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the concurrence of a majority of the membership of Council, for a period not to exceed the Mayor's term of office. He or she may be removed from office by the Mayor, provided that such removal shall not take place without the concurrence of a majority of the membership of Council. The Law Director shall serve the Mayor, the Council, the administrative officers and departments and the commissions and boards of the Municipality as legal counsel and shall represent the Municipality in all proceedings in court or before any administrative body. He or she shall perform all other duties now or hereafter imposed upon City Solicitors by the laws of the State, unless otherwise provided by ordinance of the Council, and the laws of the State, and he or she shall perform such other duties as the Council or Mayor may impose upon him or her consistent with his or her office. The Council may from time to time authorize the employment of special counsel for particular matters. No person shall act as Law Director unless duly admitted to practice law in the State.
   (b)   Prosecutor. The Prosecutor shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the concurrence of a majority of the membership of Council, for a period not to exceed the Mayor's term of office. He or she may be removed from office by the Mayor, provided that such removal shall not take place without the concurrence of a majority of the membership of Council. The Prosecutor shall represent the Village in all matters concerning the prosecution of individuals for acts occurring within the boundaries of the Village which are in violation of State or local law. No person shall act as Prosecutor unless duly admitted to practice law in the State.
