7-9-10: OPERATION OF BICYCLES:
   A.   Riding On Roadways:
      1.   Every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall ride as near as practicable to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway except under any of the following situations:
         a.   When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction.
         b.   When preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.
         c.   When reasonably necessary to avoid hazardous conditions and while exercising due care, including, but not limited to:
            (1)   Fixed or moving objects;
            (2)   Parked or moving vehicles;
            (3)   Pedestrians or animals;
            (4)   Surface hazards; or
            (5)   Any time it is unsafe to continue along the right hand curb or edge of the roadway.
      2.   Any person riding a bicycle upon a one-way street or highway with two (2) or more marked lanes of travel may ride as near as practicable to the left hand curb or edge of the street or highway.
      3.   Persons riding bicycles upon a roadway shall not ride more than two (2) abreast except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles. Persons riding two (2) abreast shall not impede the normal and reasonable flow of traffic and, on a laned roadway, shall ride within a single lane.
   B.   Emerging From Alley, Driveway Or Building: The operator of a bicycle emerging from an alley, driveway or building shall, upon approaching a sidewalk or the sidewalk area extending across any alleyway, yield the right of way to all pedestrians approaching on the sidewalk or sidewalk area and, upon entering the roadway, shall yield the right of way to all vehicles approaching on the roadway.
   C.   Riding On Sidewalks: No person shall ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk within the city limits in a manner that is unsafe or disrespectful to the rights of pedestrians. The city manager is authorized to have signs erected on any sidewalk or roadway prohibiting the riding of bicycles thereon by any person, and when such signs are in place, no person shall disobey the same.
   D.   Use Of Bicycle Paths: Wherever a usable path for bicycles has been provided adjacent to a roadway, bicycle riders shall use the path and shall not use the roadway if required by local, municipal or county ordinances. (2013 Code)
