7-3-9: SIGNS POSTED ON CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS:
   A.   One-Way Streets, Highways And Alleys: Except as may be otherwise provided by the city zoning and/or subdivision regulations, the city manager shall designate any street, highway or alley or part thereof as a one-way street, highway or alley. The city shall have placed and maintained signs giving notice thereof, and no such regulation shall be effective unless such signs are in place. Signs indicating the direction of lawful traffic movement shall be placed at every intersection where movement of traffic in the opposite direction is prohibited.    B.   Through Streets Or Highways: Except as may be otherwise provided by the city zoning and/or subdivision regulations, the city manager shall designate a through street or highway. The city shall have placed and maintained a stop sign, or if deemed more appropriate at any intersection, a yield sign, on each and every street or highway intersecting such through street or highway unless traffic at any such intersection is controlled at all times by traffic control signals; provided, however, that at the intersection of two (2) such through streets or highways or at the intersection of a through street or highway and a heavy traffic street or highway not so designated, stop signs shall be erected at the approaches of either of the streets or highways as may be determined by the city council.    C.   Stop Or Yield Intersections:
      1.   Authority: The city manager is authorized to designate whether intersections shall be marked with stop or yield signs. The city shall have placed and maintained said signs giving notice thereof, and no such regulation shall be effective unless such signs are in place. (2002 Code § 10.12.180; amd. 2013 Code)
      2.   Sign Specifications And Location:
         a.   Every stop sign shall bear the word "Stop" in letters not less than eight inches (8") in height. Every yield sign shall bear the word "Yield" in letters not less than seven inches (7") in height. Every stop sign and every yield sign shall, at nighttime, be rendered luminous by internal illumination, or by a floodlight projected on the face of the sign, or by efficient reflecting elements in the face of the sign.
         b.   Every stop sign and every yield sign shall be erected as near as practicable to the nearest line of the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if there is no crosswalk, then as near as practicable to the nearest line of the intersecting roadway. (2002 Code § 10.12.190)
      3.   Duty To Yield: The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection without any traffic control device to regulate the flow of traffic entering the intersection shall yield the right of way to all vehicles already in the intersection or to any vehicle from his or her right whenever that vehicle is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.
