10-3-27: ABANDONED WATER SERVICE LINES:
Property owners desiring to abandon water service lines, fire lines, or combinations thereof, or who are removing structures from property, shall cause such water service lines, fire lines, or combinations thereof, to be disconnected at their expense at the point of delivery or connection with the public water main if the material used in such line is not of acceptable material. If the service line is copper from the curb stop to the city water main, it shall be physically disconnected from the building side of the controlling curb stop. The curb box shall be reset over curb stops for live water services remaining. The corporation cock, tapping valve, or service valve at the public water main shall be sealed by the water department when same is exposed and the person disconnecting the water service line, fire lines, or combinations thereof, has disconnected same. Old water service lines, fire lines, or combinations thereof, may be used in connection with new buildings only when they are found on examination and/or test by the water department to meet the requirements of these and all other applicable rules and regulations.
