Sections 69-4-501 to 69-4-506 of Montana Code Annotated as amended, set forth certain procedures for obtaining information concerning underground utilities prior to making or beginning any excavation in any public street, alley, right of way dedicated to public use, or utility easement. Said sections also set forth penalties for failure to comply with the provisions enumerated therein. Persons making excavations within the city limits must comply with the provisions of said state statutes when making connections to public water mains, or installing water service lines, fire lines or combinations thereof, or making repairs, alterations, or extensions to such facilities.
