§ 34.03 OTHER LEAVES OF ABSENCE.
   (A)   An employee will be granted up to five days leave of absence, with pay, with the approval of the department head, in the event of a death in the employee's immediate family. For this purpose, the IMMEDIATE FAMILY is defined as father, mother, sister, brother, wife, husband, children, stepchildren, or stepparents.
      (1)   Employees will be permitted to take one day's leave of absence for relatives that are not part of the immediate family. Employees request for more than one day for nonimmediate family members will be reviewed on an individual basis by the department head.
      (2)   The death leave for full-time employees of five days for a death in the immediate family and one day for a death in the non-immediate family, as defined in such Code shall be charged against such employee's sick leave.

   (B)   An additional holiday is hereby established for full-time employees of the Village of Glendale which shall be one floating holiday per year which may be selected by the employee, but must be approved by such employee's immediate supervisor.

   (C)   Sick leave for illness in immediate family. Sick leave for full-time employees of the village is granted under the following conditions in the following amounts for sickness in the immediate family as defined in division (A) above:
      (1)   Official quarantine of the immediate family for a period of quarantine;
      (2)   To care for or make arrangements for a member of the immediate family, but not to exceed three days within a three-month period;
      (3)   Incidents involving accidents, major or minor surgery, critical or sudden illness, but not to exceed three days within a three-month period;
      (4)   For purposes of this section, psychiatric disorders shall be regarded as an illness;
      (5)   Time beyond three days for sickness mentioned in divisions (2) and (3) above shall be charged against an employee's compensatory time, vacation time, floating holidays, or as time off without pay and must be approved by such employee's supervisor.
   (D)   Sick leave for fathers of new-born children.
      (1)   A father of a new-born child may use up to three days of sick leave from the date of birth of such child.
