6-3-3: SALE OF UNCLAIMED MOTOR VEHICLES:
Whenever any motor vehicle so impounded as aforesaid shall remain unclaimed by the owner or other person legally entitled to possession thereof for a period of thirty (30) days from and after notice shall have been given, the police department shall sell such motor vehicle at public auction to the highest bidder for cash, the time and place of such sale to be published at least once in a newspaper of general circulation in the village, not less than ten (10) nor more than fifteen (15) days before the date of such sale. The police department shall cause a notice of such sale to be mailed to the secretary of state, said notice to contain a full description of every motor vehicle to be sold and the time and place of sale, provided any such motor vehicle not sold at the first sale may be offered for sale and sold at subsequent dates without further notice. The proceeds of such sale after paying all liens and deducting all reasonable charges and expenses, including the fees and charges herein provided and the expenses of advertising and conducting the sale, shall be paid to the village treasurer.
No member of the police department, nor any other employee of the village, directly or indirectly, shall purchase or participate in the bidding for or the purchase of any vehicle offered for sale as aforesaid. (Ord. 2017-8, 3-14-2017)
