§ 31.44 PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR.
   The following position of Public Safety Director, and the class title, examples of duties, position qualifications and working conditions are hereby adopted.
   (A)   Class title: Public Safety Director, a non-hazardous position.
   (B)   Working title: Public Safety Director.
   (C)   Characteristics of the class: Under general administrative, legislative and executive direction, plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates the activities of the Fire Department; must be able to work closely with the Mayor, the Police Chief and City Council; must possess good public relations skills; must be able to mediate conflict disputes for employees and the public.
   (D)   Examples of duties: Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates activities and programs of the Fire Department; develops organizational structure within the Department in accordance with professional standards; furnishes technical advice on fire problems; makes periodic inspections of the fire stations; supervises and participates in testing, maintenance and repair of fire equipment; supervises the Fire Prevention and Inspection Program; is responsible to the Mayor and City Council; performs other related duties as required.
   (E)   Position qualifications:
      (1)   Training and experience: Extensive supervisor experience in firefighting and prevention and graduation from a standard high school preferably supplemented by college level course work in municipal fire administrator or business administration or public administration.
      (2)   Special knowledge, skills and abilities: Extensive knowledge of modern firefighting and prevention principles, practices and techniques; extensive knowledge of the operation and maintenance of the various types of apparatus and equipment used in firefighting activities, together with the ability to supervise the effective use of the equipment and apparatus; extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of municipal fire administration; thorough knowledge of first aid principles and skill in their application; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices involved in instruction and in practical application; considerable knowledge of the location of streets, fire hydrants, fire well and similar sources of water in the municipal area; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to direct the maintenance conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to direct the maintenance of accurate records; possess a valid Kentucky operator’s license.
   (F)   Working conditions: Work is to be performed both indoors and outdoors.
   (G)   Compensation: Compensation shall be established by the Mayor, consistent with the annual budget of the city.
