As used in this chapter, certain terms are defined as follows:
"New dwelling unit" means any newly constructed single-family residence, duplex apartment or any other structure either newly constructed or being converted from one use to another as a dwelling unit.
"Smoke detector" means a device designed to detect the presence of smoke or other airborne by-products of combustion and further designed to give a loud audible warning upon detecting the presence of smoke.
