The City Manager is hereby authorized to allow Officers of the Germantown Police Department who have an aggregate of at least twenty (20) years of honorable service (including any combination of Auxiliary, Part-Time, or Full-Time service) with the Germantown Police Department, or in the event such an Officer is deceased, the family of such member, to retain as their own both the service firearm and the badge most recently issued to the Officer. The purpose of this ordinance is to show, in some small measure, the level of gratitude and appreciation that the City has for the retiring or deceased officer of the Germantown Police Department who has faithfully served the community, keeping in mind the dangerous nature of their employment as a police officer.
