A violation of this chapter shall be prosecuted as a misdemeanor and upon conviction the violator shall be punishable; however, in addition to or in lieu of any criminal prosecution, the city shall have the power to sue in civil court to enforce the provisions of this chapter. If convicted a person shall be punished by a fine not to exceed three hundred dollars ($300.00), by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
