As used in this chapter, certain terms are defined as follows:
(1) "Burial" means placement underground in a Grave.
(2) "Cemetery" means all land now owned or hereafter acquired by or under the supervision and control of the Village of Gates Mills devoted exclusively for interment of deceased persons; The Village currently operates the North Cemetery, located on Chagrin River Road near Sherman Road and the South Cemetery, located on Chagrin River Road just south of Old Mill Road.
(3) "Disinterment" means the removal of the receptacle containing human remains from a Grave. "Disinterment" does not mean the raising and lowering of remains to accommodate additional interments within a single Grave.
(4) "Easement Deed" means the mechanism used to convey the right of Burial from the Village to the individual purchaser of such right.
(5) "Grave" means a space in a Cemetery for the remains of a deceased person in a casket with sufficient space for one infant Burial or three cremation urns above, or for up to four (4) cremation urns where there are no vault Burials, which consists of a land area four (4) feet wide by ten (10) feet in length at a depth specified by the rules and regulations of the Board of Cemetery Trustees and Council, or, in absence of specific rules or regulations, as determined to be sufficient by the Service Director.
(6) "Interment" means the permanent disposition of the remains of a deceased person by Burial.
(7) "Resident" means an individual or the child of an individual who is domiciled in the Municipality as determined under Section 792.042 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Gates Mills.
(8) "Vault Burial" means a Burial wherein the casket is surrounded by a lined and sealed outer receptacle which houses the casket.
(9) "Village" means the Village of Gates Mills and, where applicable, its officials, agents or employees. (Ord. 2016-28. Passed 1-10-17.)
