§ 10.14 ORDINANCES WHICH AMEND OR SUPPLEMENT CODE.

   (A)   If the legislative body shall desire to amend any existing chapter or section of this code, the chapter or section shall be specifically repealed and a new chapter or section, containing the desired amendment, substituted in its place.

   (B)   Any ordinance which is proposed to add to the existing code a new chapter or section shall indicate, with reference to the arrangement of this code, the proper number of the chapter or section. In addition to an indication thereof as may appear in the text of the proposed ordinance, a caption or title shall be shown in concise form above the ordinance.

   (C)   When the city adopts an ordinance, it should be incorporated into the City Code to ensure continuity and compliance with I.C. 36-1-5-1. The following forms may be used:

      (1)   If a new subject is to be added:

 

GENERAL ORDINANCE NO. _______ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY CODE BY [Regulating Satellite Dishes, for example]

WHEREAS, [here insert purpose or reasons for adopting ordinance, date of any public hearing.]

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAS CITY, STATE OF INDIANA:

SECTION 1:    The Gas City Code is amended by adding a new ordinance reading as follows:

[Here insert text of ordinance]

SECTION 2:    This Ordinance shall become effective on [insert date].

 

      (2)   If an existing ordinance is to be amended:

GENERAL ORDINANCE NO. ________ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE GAS CITY CODE BY [ALTERING A SPEED LIMIT, for example]

WHEREAS, [here insert purpose or reason for amendment, date of any public hearing]

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GAS CITY, STATE OF INDIANA:

SECTION 1.    The Gas City Code is amended as follows:    Section [9-4-1-58, for example] is amended by inserting the following entry into the list of speed limits on City streets:

[Baker Avenue   40 mph]

and by striking the following language and inserting new language in its place:

[Abel Avenue   40 mph]

SECTION 2:    This ordinance shall be become effective on [insert date].
