Attaching utility lines to a roadway structure can materially affect the structure, the safe operation of traffic and the efficiency of maintenance. Gas lines over 100 psi and pipelines carrying explosives, corrosive or flammable fluids will not be permitted to be installed on roadway structures. Where it is feasible and reasonable to locate utility lines elsewhere, attachments to roadway structures will not be permitted. Bridge attachment by a utility will not be considered unless the structure in question is of a design that is adequate to support the additional load and to accommodate the utility faculty without compromise of roadway features, including reasonable ease of bridge maintenance.
