Ambulances, Fire, and Police Department vehicles, when responding to or returning from an emergency call, shall have the right-of-way, and when driver of such vehicle on such a call shall give audible signal by bell, siren, or exhaust whistle, the operator or every vehicle shall immediately drive his or her vehicle as near as possible and parallel to the right-hand curb of the street clear of any intersection, and shall stop and remain in such position until such emergency vehicle shall have passed, unless otherwise directed by a police officer. Every driver of a vehicle approaching the intersection of a street shall grant the right-of-way at such intersection to any vehicle approaching such intersection from his or her right; provided that whenever traffic officers are stationed at said intersections, they shall have full power to regulate traffic.
