§ 10.03 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purposes of this code the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   AND. May be read OR, and OR may be read AND, if the sense requires it.
   ANOTHER. When used to designate the owner of property which is the subject of an offense, includes not only natural persons but also every other owner of property.
   BOARD or COMMISSION. See Charter, Sec. 13.09(A).
   CHARTER. See Charter, Sec. 13.09(B).
   CITY or MUNICIPALITY. The City of Garden City, Michigan.
   COUNCIL or CITY COUNCIL. See Charter, Sec. 13.09(D).
   DAY. See Charter, Sec. 13.09(E).
   KEEPER or PROPRIETOR. Includes all persons, whether acting by themselves or as a servant, agent, or employee.
   LAND or REAL ESTATE. Includes rights and easements of incorporeal nature.
   LAW. See Charter, Sec. 13.09(F).
   MAY. The act referred to is permissive.
   MUNICIPAL CIVIL INFRACTION. An act or omission that is prohibited by this Code or any other ordinance of the city, but which is not a crime under this code or other ordinance, and for which civil sanctions, including, without limitation, fines, damages, expenses and costs, may be ordered, as authorized by Chapter 87 of Public Act 236 of 1961, as amended, being M.C.L.A. 600.8701 et seq. A municipal civil infraction is not a lesser included offense of a violation of this Code that is a criminal offense.
   OFFICER or OFFICIAL. See Charter, Sec. 13.09(G).
   OWNER. When applied to property, includes any part owner, joint owner, or tenant in common of the whole or part of such property.
   PERSON. Any individual, copartnership, corporation, association, club, joint adventure, estate, trust, and any other group or combination acting as a unit, and the individuals constituting such group or unit.
   PERSONAL PROPERTY. Includes all property except real.
   PREMISES. As applied to property, includes land and buildings.
   PRINTED or PRINTING. See Charter, Sec. 13.09(I).
   PROPERTY. Includes real, personal, mixed estates and interests.
   PUBLIC PLACE. Any place to or upon which the public resorts, or travels, whether such place is owned or controlled by the city or any agency of the state, or is a place to or upon which the public resorts or travels by custom, or by invitation, express or implied.
   PUBLISH. See Charter, Sec. 13.09(J).
   REAL PROPERTY. Includes lands, tenements, and hereditaments.
   REGISTERED MAIL. Includes certified mail, and CERTIFIED MAIL includes registered mail.
   SHALL. The act referred to is mandatory.
   SIDEWALK. That portion of a street between the curb lines or lateral lines and the right-of-way lines which is intended for the use of pedestrians.
   STATE. The State of Michigan.
   STREET, HIGHWAY, or ALLEY. The entire width subject to an easement for public right-of-way, or owned in fee by the city, county, or state, of every way or place, of whatever nature, whenever any part thereof is open to the use of the public, as a matter of right, for purposes of public travel. ALLEY shall mean any such way or place providing a secondary means of ingress to and egress from a property.
   TENANT or OCCUPANT. As applied to premises, includes any person holding a written or oral lease, or who actually occupies the whole or any part of such premises, alone or with others.
   WEEK. Seven consecutive days.
