The Legal Department shall handle all litigation in which the city or an officer thereof in his or her official capacity is a party, excepting those cases in which special counsel is employed; furnish advice to the City Manager, department heads and elected officials on questions involving the city’s interests; prepare ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other legal instruments required for the transaction of city business; attend all regular and special Council meetings and Planning and Zoning Commission meetings; prosecute city traffic and ordinance violation cases.
