§ 31.01 OATH AND BOND.
   (A)   Oath.
      (1)   Before entering upon the duties of their respective offices the Mayor, Council members, City Treasurer, City Clerk, Deputy City Clerk, and City Engineer, shall take and subscribe the following oath:
      I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of ____________________ according to the best of my ability.
      (2)   This oath, so subscribed, shall be filed in the office of the City Clerk.
   (B)   Bond.
      (1)   The following named city officials shall each, before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, give a good and sufficient surety company bond payable to the City of Galena, duly approved by the City Attorney and corporate authorities, and conditioned upon the faithful performance and discharge of their respective duties, and for proper application and payment of all money or property coming into their hands by virtue of their offices, according to the law and the ordinances of the City of Galena, in the following amounts:

      (2)   The obligations of the sureties on such bonds shall not extend to any loss sustained by the insolvency, failure, or closing of any bank organized and operating either under the laws of the State of Illinois or the United States wherein such officer has placed funds in his custody, if the bank has been approved by the City Council as a depository for these funds. These bonds shall be filed with the City Clerk, except the bond of the Clerk, which shall be filed with the City Treasurer.
