For the purpose of this subchapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
“ANIMAL CONTROL.” The Kenton County Dog Authority which is an authority made up of cities in Kenton County to control animals within city boundaries.
“ANIMAL CONTROL AUTHORITY CHAIRMAN.” The person elected by the Kenton County Dog Authority to oversee its daily operation.
“ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER.” Any person designated by the Kenton County Dog Authority who is qualified to perform such duties under the laws and Ordinances of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the designated city. An Animal Control Officer shall be a law enforcement officer for the purposes of this chapter only.
"AT LARGE."On or off the premises of the owner and not under the immediate effective control of the owner or custodian either by leash, cord, or chain, or effectively confined within a fenced area on the owner's premises.
“CAT.” Any member of the feline family, six months of age or over, male or female.
"CITY LICENSE."The license issued by the city or its designated agent by appropriate municipal order, and required to be worn as hereinafter stated.
"COLLAR." Any band, chain, harness, or suitable device worn around the neck of a dog to which a license may be affixed.
"DOG."Any member of the canine family, six months of age or over, male or female. "DOG" shall be construed to mean also any cat or other pet, except for the licensing provisions and any other provision which by its very nature can have no application. Owners of all cats or other pets shall comply with all applicable provisions of this subchapter as specified in this division. ('77 Code, §5-2)
"DOG OWNER."Includes every person having a right of property in the dog and every person who keeps or harbors the dog or has it in his care or permits it to remain on or about premises owned or occupied by him. If a dog is owned by a family, all adult members of the family, individually and jointly, shall be deemed owners of the dog for the purposes of this subchapter.
"STATE LICENSE."The license or tag required by KRS Chapter 258.
