   The traffic engineer or such other officers or employees of the city as he or she shall select shall place lines, signs or marks on the curb or on the street about or alongside of each parking meter to designate the parking space for which such meter is to be used. Each vehicle parking alongside of or next to any such parking meter shall park within the lines, signs or markings so established. It shall be unlawful to park any vehicle across any such line, sign or mark, or to park such vehicle in such way that the same shall not be within the area so designated by such line, sign or marking.
