The objectives of the Community Relations Commission shall be:
(a) To strive to eliminate the artificial barriers and controls which deny the residents of our community the opportunity for equal housing.
(b) To eliminate discrimination in public accommodation, services and law enforcement.
(c) To assist, direct or advise a complaining party or group in seeking the aid of any appropriate local, state or federal agency.
(d) To help develop programs that assure equality within educational facilities and provide for all children according to their potential and varying needs.
(e) To assist law enforcement in achieving a greater understanding of the nature and causes of complex community problems in the area of human relations, with special emphasis on the advancement and improvement of relations between police and community minority groups.
(f) To stimulate the business and civic community to become actively involved in social programs, with an emphasis on employment problems that produce wide gaps between the majority and minority community.
(g) To develop ways of anticipating, preparing for and relieving community tensions arising from racial differences.
(h) To act as an interpreter and conciliator in those instances where tensions erupt into social disturbances and offer recommendations which may deter the recurrence of similar issues.
(i) To address concerns with inequities in the criminal justice system.
(j) To make recommendations that initiate, develop, modify and facilitate legislation and programs with community groups, both public and private, to obtain a better understanding between City Council, Civil Service Commission, community resources and the needs of the citizens.
(k) To develop public support for human relations.
(l) To promote positive issues that benefit all citizens and is proactive inensuring cultural harmony for the City of Fremont.
