All excavations made within the street lines or sidewalks shall be subject to the directions of and be under the supervision of the City Engineer. All paving material, flagging and curbing shall be removed from sight by the contractor at his expense. After the work is done, as contemplated by the application for the permit heretofore referred to, all trenches or openings shall be refilled with a suitable berm material and compacted to a high density and all excess material removed from the job site, in accordance with the directions of the City Engineer.
