§ 10.99  GENERAL PENALTY.
   Whenever in this code or any ordinance of the city an act is prohibited or is made or declared to be unlawful or an offense or a misdemeanor, or whenever in this code or any ordinance of the city the doing of any act is required or the failure to do any act is declared unlawful, unless another penalty is provided for elsewhere in this code or such other ordinance by amendment to this code, or such ordinance adopted after the effective date of the ordinance being amended, the violation of any such provision that governs fire safety, zoning, or public health and sanitation, including dumping of refuse, shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $2,000; the punishment for any other provision shall be a fine not to exceed $500; provided however, that no penalty shall be greater or less than the penalty provided for the same or similar offense under the law of the state.
